Patrick: “My passion is in helping people in pain - especially those whose pain in limiting their physical activity or sport. I am a firm believer in the benefits of sport and physical training in both a mental and public health capacity. In today’s world, encouraging people to keep fit and enjoy sport has never been more important in tackling the chronic health crisis facing our NHS. As clinicians, we are in a very unique place to help educate and encourage our patients to not just resolve their pain or injury but to discover their physical potential.
“In addition to the usual back and neck complaints, I specialise in treating stubborn chronic injuries and sport-related injury or performance issues. My treatments focus heavily on biomechanical and functional assessment to build a well-rounded picture of how the body is being used and how an injury fits into this context. This generally includes: active and passive movement assessment (including sporting movements), gait evaluation, muscle power assessment, orthopaedic testing and palpation of the muscle and joint tissue. Treatment is then specifically tailored to suit both the acute management of the patient’s symptoms and to address any specific functional imbalances that may underlie the development of the injury, and generally are evenly balanced between manual and exercise therapy. I qualified in 2014 with a Master of Osteopathy (Merit) from the London School of Osteopathy. After qualifying as a registered osteopath, I went on to study sport and exercise rehabilitation and injury management, initially completing a post graduate diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine (PgDip SEM - distinction) and culminating in my MSc (Distinction) in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the University of South Wales. In addition to my formal qualifications, I have undertaken professional qualifications in: ultrasound imaging, electrotherapy (therapeutic ultrasound, laser and muscle stimulation), acupuncture, strength and conditioning, pilates instruction and the management of endurance athletes. I am currently waiting to complete the AACP foundation course with HePAG, which has been delayed due to the current crisis. I place a heavy emphasis on patient relationships and have an 83% patient retention at my most recent clinic. Please have a look at my patient reviews on google (Patrick Meyer, Registered Osteopath - Cheltenham).”
